Advertising policy

1. Advertising and journalism are separate

Advertising is sold by Larch & Hay Publishing LLC. Our writers and editor are not involved in selling ads, are not paid according to what is advertised, and decide what to cover without regard to advertisers. No advertiser can buy coverage, review or approve a story before publication, or have a story changed or removed.

2. Clear labels

Every advertisement appears in a space marked “Advertisement”. If we ever publish content paid for by a sponsor, it will be labelled “Sponsored” at the top, visually distinct from our own stories, and the sponsor will be named. We do not publish advertising disguised as news.

3. What we accept

We welcome advertising relevant to our readers, for example: travel and tourism in Slovenia and the region; cultural events, books and music; food and wine; language courses; diaspora organisations; shipping and services for people living abroad; and general consumer brands.

4. What we refuse

• Political, electoral and issue advertising, including ads from parties, candidates and campaigns;
• gambling, betting, lotteries and casino services;
• tobacco, e-cigarettes, vaping products and recreational drugs;
• weapons and ammunition;
• adult or sexually explicit content, and dating services aimed at adults;
• high-risk financial products, cryptocurrency schemes and “get rich quick” offers;
• unproven health claims, miracle cures and prescription medicines;
• ads that are misleading, discriminatory, or that imitate our news design.

We may refuse or remove any ad at our discretion, including after it has started running.

5. Personalised advertising

Ads may be personalised only if you allow advertising cookies. Without that consent, any ads you see are contextual, based on the page rather than on you. See our cookie policy.

6. Advertising enquiries
