Slovenian schools are on their autumn break, known at home as the potato holidays, and Postojna Cave has a family offer to match. Between 24 October and 1 November, two adult tickets include free entry for up to two children under 15, so a family of four pays €69.80.12
Visitors ride the cave train underground and pass, among other sights, the 16-metre Skyscraper stalagmite and the olm, the pale cave salamander that locals call the baby dragon. It is about 10 °C inside, so bring a warm layer.12
Christmas underground
Ticket pre-sales have also opened for the 36th Living Nativity, in which around 100 performers stage the Bible story along about five kilometres of cave paths in roughly 90 minutes, including parts of the cave not on the regular tour. Until 5 November, tickets for the shows on 25 and 29 December are 30 percent off.1
