Slovenia had its most successful September for tourism on record, the Statistical Office (SURS) reported on Friday. Accommodation providers counted almost 822,000 arrivals and just under two million overnight stays. That is 11.4 percent more arrivals and 12.4 percent more nights than a year earlier.1
Foreign guests made almost 683,000 of the arrivals and produced 81 percent of all overnight stays. Most came from Germany, Austria and the United States.1
Mountains up the most
Mountain municipalities produced 36 percent of all overnight stays in September and grew the fastest, by 23 percent. Bled was the busiest of them, with almost 160,000 nights, 98 percent of them by foreign visitors. On the coast, Piran led with more than 230,000 nights, a quarter of them by Slovenians. Ljubljana remained the most visited municipality, with almost 318,000 nights.1
Where Slovenians went
Domestic guests made almost 139,000 arrivals, 5 percent more than a year earlier. They most often stayed in Piran, Izola and Ankaran, followed by the spa municipalities of Brežice, Moravske Toplice and Podčetrtek, where they also stayed longest, 3.7 nights on average.1
